Why the city pickup won't clear your basement

Denver's Large Item Pickup is free, but it can't do a cleanout. It comes once every nine weeks, caps out at five large items, and is curbside only — so a basement full of thirty things you'd have to haul up the stairs and pile at the street yourself is a non-starter. And it flatly excludes appliances, electronics, and tires, which means the old basement fridge, the tube TV in the attic, and the dead treadmill aren't eligible at all. We take all of it, on your schedule, carried out of the house — not left waiting at the curb for two months. Usable furniture goes to ARC Thrift Stores, Goodwill of Colorado, and Habitat ReStore; TVs and computers go to an e-cycler, because Colorado bans e-waste from the landfill.
