The bungalows that ring Sloan's Lake are the older Denver story: modest street footprint, a full basement underneath holding everything a household stopped using but never threw out. Sloan's Lake sits squarely in the same pop-top and scrape-off belt as the Highlands just north — original bungalows coming down or growing a second story, and new duplexes going up in their place. That renovation churn throws off a very different load than a basement full of furniture. Demolition debris — drywall, subfloor, tile, old cabinets, cast-iron fixtures — is heavy, and Front Range disposal charges by weight (roughly $88 a ton) and doubles the fee for an uncovered load, which is why we tarp everything we haul. So we price construction and demo debris as its own volume line at $162 per cubic yard instead of pretending it's the same as carrying out a bookshelf. Denver's free Large Item Pickup is real, but it's built for a curb, not a move-in weekend or a basement. What's usable stays out of the landfill and routes to ARC Thrift Stores, Goodwill of Colorado, and Habitat for Humanity ReStore; any TVs or electronics go to an e-cycler because Colorado bans them from the landfill.
