The short answer
The easiest bookings in Denver are weekday mornings between November and February. The hardest are Saturdays in June, July and August, and the last two weekends before the first serious snow.
None of that changes the number. There is no peak rate, no weekend rate, no seasonal surcharge and no same-day surcharge. A Sofa / Couch is $126, a half truck is $431, the minimum is $75, all year. What changes is how far ahead you need to book.
Denver squeezes almost everything into the warm months
This metro has a genuinely compressed active season. Between the last hard freeze and the first real snow, everything that involves carrying something outdoors happens: moving, renovating, popping a top, scraping a lot, finishing a basement, replacing a roof, clearing a garage.
The consequence is that May through September is one long rush and the rest of the year is comparatively quiet. In a milder city that work spreads across ten or eleven months. Here it does not, and that is why a Saturday in July is the single hardest slot to get in the Denver hauling calendar.
If your junk is not going anywhere — and most junk is not — the useful move is simply to go around the rush.
The four busy peaks, in order
- Late spring, after the first hail. A serious storm across Aurora, Centennial or Lakewood produces wrecked patio furniture, shredded screens, cracked planters and roofing tear-off across whole streets at once. The metro fills with roofers and the hauling calendar tightens behind them.
- Mid-summer, moving season. General lease turnover plus home sales. The last two weeks of any summer month are the tightest slots of the year.
- End of summer, student turnover. Leases around the University of Denver and the Auraria campus flip together, and the same weeks are already busy.
- Late September and October, the garage deadline. The distinctively Front Range one. Households realize the car has to fit in the garage before the snow, or it is scraping ice at 6:40 every morning for five months. Garage cleanouts spike hard in those three or four weekends.
The quiet windows worth using
- November through February, midweek. The easiest booking in the Denver year. Same price, near-instant availability. If what you need gone is indoors — a basement, a spare room, a stairwell full of flat-pack — winter is the obvious answer and almost nobody uses it.
- Mid-month, any month. Lease dates cluster at month ends. The tenth to the twentieth is consistently easier than the twenty-fifth to the fifth.
- Weekday mornings. Better parking on a Congress Park or Baker block, clearer alleys, and a crew that has not already done two jobs.
- The week after a thaw. Specific to detached alley garages. Once the plow berm at the alley mouth melts out, access is straightforward again.
What winter actually changes
Winter bookings are easy and mostly uncomplicated, but three Denver things are worth knowing.
Alley access. Behind the bungalows in Park Hill, Berkeley and Platt Park, plows push berms across the alley mouths and gravel freezes into ruts. If your job depends on a truck reaching a detached garage, either wait for a thaw or plan to carry out the front. Tell us which when you book.
Spring snow. March and April produce the heaviest wet snows of the Denver year, which is counterintuitive to anyone new here. A booking in that window can get weathered out, and it is the one time of year genuinely worth having a fallback date.
Frozen items. A hot tub, a mattress or a patio set that has been outside through a freeze is a different job. Hot tubs in particular need a thaw window to drain and cut safely.
Book around your other trades, not before them
The most common scheduling mistake here is booking the haul too early in a project.
- Moving out? Book the haul for after the movers. What you thought you were keeping changes the moment it is in the hallway.
- Renovating? Book after the demolition, not during it. Construction Debris is $120, a bundle of Roofing Shingles is $48 and a Full Kitchen Cabinet Set (rip-out) is $293, but only once it is actually out.
- Replacing an appliance? Book a day or two after the install. Installers frequently leave the old unit beside the house, and a fridge that sits there through a hail season and a freeze is a worse job than it needed to be.
- Selling? Book before the photographs, not after the first showing.
How to get the slot you want
Simple rules that work in this market.
- Summer Saturday: book one to two weeks out.
- October garage weekend: book two weeks out. This is the one people consistently underestimate.
- Anything in winter: book a few days out and take a weekday morning.
- Bundle everything into one visit. The minimum is $75, so one trip that takes the basement, the garage and the hail-wrecked patio chairs costs far less than three, and it finishes the job rather than half-finishing it.
Frequently asked questions
Is junk removal cheaper at certain times of year in Denver?
No. The prices are identical in July and February — a sofa is $126, a half truck is $431, the minimum is $75. There is no peak rate, no weekend rate and no same-day surcharge. Only availability changes.
When is the busiest time for junk removal here?
Saturdays from June through August, and the last few weekends before the first serious snow in late September and October, when everyone wants the car back in the garage. Late spring after a major hailstorm is a third peak.
Can you work in winter?
Yes, and it is the easiest time to book. The two things to plan around are alley access — plow berms can close off a detached garage until a thaw — and the heavy wet snows of March and April, which are the ones most likely to move a date.
Should I book before or after my movers?
After. What you intend to keep changes the moment it is out of the room and in the hallway, and a haul booked for the day after the move is far more accurate than one booked a week before it.
How far ahead should I book a summer Saturday?
One to two weeks. The last two weeks of any summer month are the tightest slots in the Denver calendar, because general leases, home sales and student turnover around DU and Auraria all land at once.
